The most common sectional-door track: vertical track at the jambs, a curved radius section, and horizontal track running back into the building. Built in Bemidji in 2-inch or 3-inch stainless for doors that live in wash bays, wastewater plants, salt sheds, and anywhere galvanized track rusts through.

How it works

Vertical, radius, horizontal.

Standard lift is the default configuration for sectional doors. The door travels straight up the vertical track, turns through the radius section just above the opening, and rides back into the building on horizontal track hung from the ceiling or structure.

Because the door turns immediately above the header, standard lift needs the least headroom of the full-lift configurations. A 12-inch radius typically needs about 12 inches of headroom with the torsion spring assembly above the door; a 15-inch radius needs about 15 inches and rides more smoothly on taller commercial doors. The exact figure depends on the spring assembly, operator, and door thickness, which is why we confirm it on the quote.

In corrosive buildings the track is usually the first thing to fail. Rust jacks the rollers, the radius pits, and the horizontal sags at the hangers. Stainless track removes that failure mode for the life of the door.

Is this the right track?

Standard lift fits most openings. Here is how to tell.

Choose standard lift when

  • Headroom above the opening is limited, roughly 12 to 18 inches available.
  • The space above the horizontal track is clear of equipment, ductwork, and lights.
  • You are replacing rusted galvanized standard-lift track on an existing door.
  • Residential, light commercial, and most shop, barn, and fleet doors.

Look at another configuration when

  • Equipment, dryers, or a mezzanine sit in the path of the horizontal track: see High Lift.
  • You have wall height equal to the door height plus about a foot and want the ceiling clear: see Vertical Lift.
  • The roof is pitched and the horizontal track has to follow it: see High Lift with Pitch.

Common configurations

How we typically build standard lift.

Every set is cut and drilled to the door. These are the decisions that shape the quote.

2-inch track, 12-inch radius

The residential and light-commercial standard. Runs 2-inch rollers, turns tight above the header, and needs the least headroom of any full-lift setup.

Best for: 1-3/8 and 2-inch doors, shop and fleet doors up to about 14 feet tall

2-inch track, 15-inch radius

Same 2-inch profile with a larger radius. The door transitions more smoothly, which matters on taller doors and higher cycle counts, at the cost of a few more inches of headroom.

Best for: Taller commercial doors on 2-inch hardware

3-inch track, 15-inch radius

Heavier profile for 3-inch rollers and 3-inch-thick industrial doors. Stiffer horizontals, heavier hangers, and bearing plates to match.

Best for: 3-inch industrial doors, heavy insulated panels, high-cycle openings

Bracket mount or continuous angle

Vertical track either hangs on stainless jamb brackets lagged to wood, or bolts to a continuous stainless angle on steel or masonry. Continuous angle is stiffer and is what we recommend for high-cycle doors and any jamb you cannot lag into.

Best for: Continuous angle on steel and block; brackets on wood jambs

Measure from inside the building. If you can only get some of these, send what you have with photos and we will work out the rest with you.

  1. Door width and height (the finished opening)
  2. Headroom: top of the opening to the lowest obstruction above it
  3. Sideroom on each side of the opening
  4. Backroom: clear depth into the building from the opening
  5. Track size, 2 inch or 3 inch (the Track ID Guide shows how to tell)
  6. Door thickness and number of sections
  7. Jamb material (wood, steel, block) and how the track mounts today
  8. Photos from inside showing the opening, jambs, and ceiling

Common questions

What people ask before they order standard-lift track.

Can I reuse my existing rollers, hinges, and brackets on stainless track?

Mechanically, yes, if they are the same track size. But mixing rusted galvanized hardware with new stainless track just moves the next failure onto the parts you kept. We can quote the track alone or a matched stainless package, your call.

Do you fabricate track for doors you did not make?

Yes. Standard lift track fits any sectional door that runs on 2-inch or 3-inch track, whoever built the panels. Send the measurements and the door brand if you know it.

What about low-headroom doors?

Low-headroom hardware moves the springs behind the horizontal track and uses a different top fixture and drums. Note the available headroom on the form and we will quote the right setup rather than forcing standard lift into a space it does not fit.

How does stainless track ship?

Long sections ship LTL freight, curbside, and may need an appointment. Shorter runs and hardware ship UPS. The quote states the shipping method, the lead time, and whether a liftgate is needed.
